IPFS Weekly 24

# Welcome to the first IPFS Weekly of 2019! 🎉

For this first week back, we’ve put together a very special issue looking back on all that you, the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) (opens new window) community, accomplished in the last year.

# 2018 was a year of significant milestones

January: Mozilla adds support for Decentralization Protocols (opens new window) in popular web browser, Firefox.

February: The world was introduced to libp2p (opens new window), a peer-to-peer networking stack built modularly, with IPFS.

March: js-ipfs v0.28.0 (opens new window) was released, Juan Benet presented Redecentralizing the Web (opens new window) to MIT’s largest research lab, the Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab, and go-ipfs released version 0.4.14 (opens new window).

April: We introduced IPFS Companion 2.2.0 (opens new window) and gave folks a look at go-ipfs on Windows (opens new window).

May: We announced the first ever IPFSConf (opens new window), Textile introduced a personal IPFS (opens new window) that runs on your mobile device for true decentralized storage. js-ipfs 0.29.0 was released (opens new window) and we closed out the month by getting the IPFS Cluster 0.4.0 release candidates (opens new window) out with a newly launched IPFS Cluster website (opens new window) to boot.

July: The Awesome IPFS list (opens new window) on GitHub was relaunched as a website (opens new window). Released js-ipfs v0.30.0 (opens new window) and v0.31.0 (opens new window) back to back. js-libp2p had its first official release (opens new window), and lastly, go-ipfs v0.4.17 (opens new window) was released.

August: We celebrated Lab Day 2018 (opens new window) in San Francisco, California (see the talks from Lab Day here (opens new window)) and released both the InterPlanetary Linked Data (IPLD) (opens new window) explorer site and the official site for js-ipfs: js.ipfs.io (opens new window). We closed out the summer with the release of IPFS Cluster 0.5.0 (opens new window).

September: Cloudflare announced their IPFS gateway (opens new window) and the IPFS Weekly Newsletter returned (opens new window). js-ipfs 0.32.0 (opens new window) was released and so was ipld-explorer-cli 0.14 (opens new window).

October: IPFS Pinbot (opens new window) emerged on Twitter.

November: A big month for releases! js-ipfs 0.33 (opens new window) and go-ipfs 0.4.18 (opens new window) and js-libp2p v0.24.0 (opens new window) were all released.

December: We ended the year with a bit of organization, by renaming the HTTP client libraries (opens new window).
