Fear and participation

The court system is not created for “justice” as we tend to think about it. It’s a system that can only enforce the laws created by legislators whose interests often don’t align with the most vulnerable who are looking to be protected by the court.

news on the hotel lobby TV

Seeing the wider system is scary.

There’s an immensity, of scale and intricacy
and I am so small.

I have opinions, feelings, judgement
and can not implement them.

Yet I have a will to make the world
closer to how I would prefer it.

Our legends of magic are expressions of this:
the will made efficacious.

Looking past the scariness, toward understanding–
and understanding our lack of understanding–
of the systems and my place in them

there is a different equanimity
and a different sort of effectiveness

in participation, more conscious each time.
