Mid-year Update: Quacks, Steam Distribution, Sound Synthesis, and Pixel Arrays

Since we are halfway through 2023, I wanted to give y’all an update about what’s new with DragonRuby Game Toolkit.

Quacks

The Rubber Duck Dev Show is making June the month of DragonRuby. All month long, they will feature guests from the DragonRuby community to discuss game development topics.

All episodes are recorded and posted on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/@rubberduckdevshow

The show airs live every Tuesday and Thursday, 3pm EDT (7pm UTC) on Twitch, so come hang out and pick up some game dev tips: https://www.twitch.tv/rubberduckdevshow

Steam Distribution

Packaging your game using Steam’s toolchain is a pain in the ass. We’ve added capabilities within DragonRuby that simplify the process significantly. Once you have your game’s information set up within the Steamworks website, a single metadata file can be used to create a cross-platform package that is uploaded on your behalf :-)

Turnkey Steam Distribution is an Indie/Pro feature. Here’s the full feature list for Indie and Pro versions of DragonRuby if you’re interested.

Sound Synthesis and Pixel Arrays for All

Sound Synthesis and Pixel Arrays historically have been an Indie/Pro feature, but we’ve decided to make this available across all license tiers. Woot.

Here to Help

I’m always around on the DragonRuby Discord Server if you have any questions or need help with game development using DragonRuby. Just ping @amirrajan (join the Discord server and start building games dammit, you already own the engine, so put it to good use).
