Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS) now supports AWS Graviton2-based database (DB) instances in the regions of AWS GovCloud (US), Asia Pacific (Seoul), and Europe (Stockholm). Depending on DB engine, version, and workload, Graviton2 instances provide up to 35% performance improvement and up to 52% price/performance improvement over comparable current generation x86-based instances for Amazon RDS for MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL.
If your instance is using a major version that supports Graviton2, such as MySQL 8.0.23 or MariaDB 10.4.13 or PostgreSQL 12.3, you can upgrade to Graviton2 by modifying the DB instance type to M6g or R6g using the AWS Management Console or AWS CLI. Your instance will continue to work as normal, and you will not have to change any application code to connect to Graviton2-based RDS instances. For more details, refer to the Amazon RDS User Guide.
With this regional expansion, M6g and R6g DB instances are now available for Amazon RDS in the AWS GovCloud (US), US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon, N. California), Canada (Central), Europe (Ireland, Frankfurt, London, Stockholm), South America (São Paulo), and Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney, Tokyo) regions.
