Amazon Elasticsearch Service now supports open source Elasticsearch 7.10 and its corresponding version of Kibana. This minor release includes bug fixes and enhancements.

In this new release, Elasticsearch improves indexing speed by up to 20% for certain use cases and more space efficient indices through higher compression of stored fields.

With this release we also added support for composable index templates. There are now two types of templates, index templates and component templates. Component templates are reusable building blocks that can be used for configuring index mappings, index settings and index aliases.

This release also includes support for recently released features like trace analytics, reporting for Kibana, and rollups. These features are components of Open Distro for Elasticsearch, an Apache 2.0-licensed distribution of Elasticsearch.

Amazon Elasticsearch Service now publishes events to Amazon CloudWatch and Amazon EventBridge to provide better visibility into the service. Events to indicate the availability of a service software update for a domain, the start of an update, and the completion of an update will be included in the initial release. You will also be able to view these events under the new ‘Notifications’ view in the Amazon Elasticsearch Service console.

You can now create new domains running Elasticsearch 7.10 and upgrade many existing domains with no downtime using in-place Elasticsearch version upgrades.

The new version of Elasticsearch and Kibana on Amazon Elasticsearch Service is available immediately in 25 regions globally: US East (N. Virginia, Ohio), US West (Oregon, N.
