Posted on: Dec 10, 2020

Amazon QuickSight dashboards can now visualize data from Amazon Elasticsearch Service. Amazon Elasticsearch Service is a fully managed service that makes it easy for you to deploy, secure, and run Elasticsearch cost effectively at scale. Authors in QuickSight can select Amazon Elasticsearch Service as a data source, select the specific data domain to analyze and start visualizing in QuickSight. See here to learn more.

Amazon QuickSight has added 2 new chart types - box plots and filled maps. Box plots allow data to be graphically depicted with details of quartiles (Q1/25th percentile, Q2/50th percentile, Q3/75th percentile), as well as minimum and maximum values across categories. Box plot charts also dashboards to display symmetry within data along with outliers which are represented as discrete points around quartile boxes. Filled maps (choropleth maps) allow data to be displayed across defined geographic regions with color gradients based on a metric or specific conditional formatting rules. At launch, filled maps are available for the US with support for State, County and Postal Code. More details here.

Lastly, on tables and pivot tables, you can now use two new settings available to wrap text in table headers and change vertical alignment of headers and text. More details here.

These features are available in both Standard and Enterprise Edition across all supported regions - US East (N. Virginia and Ohio), US West (Oregon), EU (Frankfurt, Ireland and London), Asia Pacific (Mumbai, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo), and US West (GovCloud).
