I tend to open multiple PDF files at once and it’s a lot easier to navigate through them when they are as tabs. Adobe Reader provides that by default, but I needed to view tabbed PDFs on Preview.
I sometimes need to have the opportunity to edit PDFs, but didn’t want to pay for that by purchasing Adobe Reader Pro.
I had considered using Preview, but since it wasn’t opening the PDFs as tabs, I wasn’t very comfortable using it. I simply used Adobe Reader.
Fortunately, I discovered that there is the opportunity to have tabs inside Preview as well.
A quick Google search will reveal to you the steps that you can use to activate that.
From Apple’s Support page:
In the Preview app on your Mac, choose Preview > Preferences, then click Images.
Select an option for “When opening files”:
Open all files in one window: Uses one window for all files you open in Preview, no matter when you open them.
Open groups of files in the same window: Uses one window for each set of files you open in Preview at the same time.
Open each file in its own window: Uses one window for each file.
For years, I used Adobe Reader, but now thankfully, I have switched to Preview which allows me to also edit PDFs without paying anything.
I also prefer that it is a lot smoother than Adobe Reader on my Mac.
