AWS Storage Gateway is now available on Linux KVM hypervisor
The AWS Storage Gateway service now includes the Linux Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisor as a deployment option for all gateway types. If you use KVM hypervisor-based on-premises infrastructure, you can now deploy Storage Gateway in your environment to access virtually unlimited cloud storage.
KVM is an open source virtualization technology that lets you turn a Linux-based host machine into one or more virtual machines. With this launch, you have the option to deploy Storage Gateway on a KVM hypervisor. Storage Gateway supports QEMU-KVM on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.7, CentOS 7.7, and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and 16.04 LTS, on host machines using an Intel x86 CPU with virtualization extension.
Storage Gateway is a hybrid cloud storage service that provides on-premises applications access to virtually unlimited cloud storage using NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and iSCSI-VTL interfaces. You can use the service to backup and archive data to AWS, shift on-premises storage to cloud-backed file shares, and provide on-premises applications low-latency access to data in AWS. You can deploy Storage Gateway on a virtual appliance (VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Linux KVM) on premises, a hardware appliance on premises, or on an Amazon EC2 instance in AWS.
Storage Gateway is available in 20 AWS regions, including AWS GovCloud (US-West) and China (Beijing). To start using Storage Gateway, see instructions in the AWS Storage Gateway User Guide.
