AWS Storage Gateway adds Amazon CloudWatch logging and metrics for File Gateway
File Gateway, part of the AWS Storage Gateway service, now publishes health and performance logs and metrics to Amazon CloudWatch, providing you with continuous visibility into operations of your gateway in order to quickly respond to changes in your workload.
File Gateway provides on-premises applications with file-based, cached access to virtually unlimited cloud storage. With this launch, you can configure Amazon CloudWatch Logging to log configuration errors, such as insufficient bucket access privileges, or when applications use the gateway to access files that have transitioned to long-term Amazon S3 storage classes. You can subscribe to these log entries and be notified to correct the errors. Normal operations can be resumed and your file share clients can continue to access their data. You can use the new Amazon CloudWatch metrics to monitor CPU, cache disk, and RAM allocated to your gateway, enabling you to detect performance anomalies, and tune resources before your file share clients are impacted.
Starting today, when you activate a gateway, you can enable monitoring in every region where AWS Storage Gateway is available. For existing gateways, this new capability will be available through a software update on or before October 9, 2019.
