Widgets have not been a top priority for Google for the past few Android releases, but that does not mean that they are no longer used. A lot of people, including myself, use them on a daily basis, and a homescreen widget for a music player is one of the better uses for an Android widget. A recent update to Spotify removed the app's widget, and Spotify went on to confirm that this change is intentional, meaning that it is here to stay. If you do miss the widget, do not worry, we have two methods to bring back the same functionality, though do note that both the methods use paid apps.

Method 1: SpotWidget App

SpotWidget by XDA Recognized Developer jagan2 is the easy method to get back the Spotify widget to your homescreen, as you simply need to install the app and place the widget without needing any further complicated setups. You do need to grant the app permission for Notification Access to control song playbacks, and the app is also paid, so these reasons may influence your decision to look for yet another alternative.

Method 2: Tasker with KWGT

If you do not want to spend on a dedicated widget app for Spotify, and you have already purchased Tasker in the past, you can achieve the same result by using Tasker along with KWGT (Kustom Widget Maker). Tasker developer joaomgcd has shared a Tasker project and a tutorial video for users to follow along, making it fairly simple as far as Tasker's capabilities and potential go. All you have to do is install both Tasker and KWGT, import the project from the link mentioned in the forum thread, place a 4x1 KWGT widget on your homescreen and choose the imported project. Since this is Tasker, you can use the same widget to choose whether you want to control Spotify or Google Play Music. And also because this uses KWGT, you can customize just about everything about the widget, and set it up just the way you want it to be.

Do note that this method also requires AutoNotification for Tasker and Notification Access for the album art to be displayed properly. Tasker is a paid app too, though KWGT and AutoNotification are free, so keep that in mind as well.
